Board


The Western Springs Park District is a separate and distinct governmental entity that is responsible for its own financial and capital resources. It is governed by seven elected residents of Western Springs who freely give their services to the community. The Park District Board of Commissioners meets once a month to conduct the business affairs of the District. Residents are invited to attend Board meetings and are encouraged to make suggestions or comments to help improve Park District facilities.

Budget
The Board of Commissioners is responsible for the adoption of a yearly budget and passage of an annual appropriation ordinance. The budget and appropriation ordinance shall indicate the amount of cash the Board has on hand at the beginning of the year, the amount of anticipated revenues to be received and the amount of anticipated expenses to be disbursed

Commissioners
The Western Springs Park District is a distinct corporate body entirely independent of the Village of Western Springs. As such, the Park District has all the powers of any other public corporation within the limits prescribed by statutes. The Park District is governed by the Illinois General Assembly enacted Park District Code.

The Park District and its Board have the power to acquire, construct and maintain parks and control their use.

Planning
The Board of Commissioners is entrusted with the responsibility of planning, directing and monitoring all aspects of the Park District, including acquisition of land, implementation of funds and maintenance of the Park District facilities. The Board has undertaken several studies to address the current, near future and long-term needs of the Park District in order to facilitate the execution of these responsibilities.
